Individual Psychotherapy

Virtual Sessions Available in 44 U.S. States & Territories

Sometimes the hardest things to understand are the ones we’re living through. When you’re caught in familiar patterns, struggling with difficult experiences, or unsure why life isn’t going the way you want it to, a supportive outside perspective can make all the difference.

Psychotherapy offers opportunities to see yourself and your circumstances differently, discover possibilities you may not have recognized, and find new ways to navigate life’s challenges with clarity and confidence.

I work with adolescents and adults who are:

  • seeking greater self-understanding, personal growth, and meaningful change

  • struggling with expectations, pressures, or patterns that leave them feeling overwhelmed, unfulfilled, or disconnected from themselves

  • navigating complicated relationships, difficult decisions, or circumstances that challenge their sense of identity, autonomy, or belonging

Sessions often focus on understanding emotional experiences, identifying patterns that contribute to distress, and addressing the impact of difficult relationships, expectations, and life experiences — especially those involving neurodivergence, LGBTQIA+ identities, and the challenges of living authentically in environments that don’t always support or understand you.

I’m Dr. Jess, a licensed psychologist with PSYPACT authority to provide telehealth psychotherapy to people in most U.S. states. I specialize in helping adolescents and adults better understand themselves, recognize how their experiences and circumstances have shaped them, and challenge patterns and expectations that interfere with their well-being.

Whether you’re seeking relief from emotional distress, greater self-acceptance, or meaningful changes in your life, our sessions will be grounded in genuine understanding, respect for your individual experiences, and the belief that you deserve a life that aligns with who you are and what matters most to you.

Frequently Asked Questions about Psychotherapy with Dr. Jess

Q: Does Dr. Jess provide psychotherapy for people of all ages?

A: Yes. For minors, consent for treatment must be given by one or both parents/legal guardians based on the regulations of your state.

Q: Does Dr. Jess only provide psychotherapy for issues around neurodivergence, LGBTQIA+ identities, or generational differences?

A: No. Dr. Jess specializes in neurodivergence, but the core of all of her work is helping people understand themselves more clearly, navigate away from stuck or painful patterns, and move toward lives and relationships that are more authentic, joyful, and sustainable.

Q: Does Dr. Jess offer in-person psychotherapy sessions?

A: No. All of Dr. Jess’ services are provided virtually via secure video conferencing.

Q: Does Dr. Jess offer psychotherapy to people in any state or country?

A: No. Psychotherapy is a regulated psychological service that is limited by Dr. Jess’ professional license in the U.S. state of Michigan and her Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology granted by the PSYPACT Commission. All participants must be physically located in a PSYPACT-participating U.S. state or territory during each appointment with Dr. Jess. Click here for a current list.

Q: Can I see Dr. Jess for both individual and couples or family psychotherapy?

A: Generally, no. A spouse, partner, or other family member may occasionally be included in an individual psychotherapy session to support treatment goals. However, in order to remain fully aligned with the couple or family system as a whole, Dr. Jess does not offer concurrent individual and couples/family psychotherapy. After couples or family psychotherapy concludes, Dr. Jess may offer individual psychotherapy to one member of the former treatment system if clinically appropriate.

Q: Does Dr. Jess offer weekend or evening appointments?

A: Yes, though Dr. Jess is in the Eastern time zone, so evening appointments may not accommodate scheduling needs of clients in Pacific or Mountain time zones.

Q: How do I pay for sessions?

A: A credit or debit card must be kept on file, and payment is required within 2 days of scheduling a session. Payments can be made by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, or electronic bank transfer. For clients using insurance, any applicable copayments, coinsurance, or deductible amounts are determined by their insurance plan and are also due before each session.

Q: Does Dr. Jess accept insurance?

A: Yes. Dr. Jess is an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM). Coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan, so clients are encouraged to verify their benefits before scheduling.

For clients with other insurance plans, psychotherapy services are available on a private-pay basis. Some plans offer reimbursement for services provided by out-of-network providers. Upon request, Dr. Jess can provide a monthly superbill that clients may submit to their insurance company for possible reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed, and clients remain responsible for the full cost of services regardless of their insurance company’s decision.
